Running Backs to Avoid in the Second Round

One of the biggest mistakes you can make in fantasy football is to automatically choose 2 running backs in the first round without thinking it through. If you plan correctly, you can get an elite wide receiver in the second round without giving up too many points at your second running back position. A patient fantasy player can wait until the third round to choose that second RB and make out like a bandit. Here is my list of RB's to avoid in the second round........

1. Willis McGahee
2. Ronnie Brown
3. Maurice Jones-Drew
4. Cedric Benson
5. Thomas Jones

These guys simply aren't worth waisting such a high pick on. Most likely, you'll end up with a pretty mediocre team if you draft one of these RB's in the second round. If a Reggie Bush, or Brian Westbrook is sitting there in round two, jump on them. But if those guys are gone, get a jump on elite WR like Marvin Harrison and you'll get a better overall value for your picks.

Frank Gore kicks off the Preseason Injury List

Every year, the preseason usually claims a few key fantasy football players before the season begins. If you a lucky enough to have your draft late, you can usually avoid having to start the season with your best player on the bench. However, for those with an early draft, your season could be over before it begins.

Already this season, one of the top 5 overall fantasy picks, Frank Gore of the San Francisco 49ers, has broken his hand and will most likely miss the first three exhibition games of the season.

Is this enough to drop his draft ranking? Probably not. But it should raise a few caution flags for those with their hearts set on drafting Gore. Gore has suffered a lot of injuries in the past, and this could be a sign of bad things to come.
