It has been a tough start to the season for quality tight ends thus far. Antonio Gates is holding out. Eric Johnson is out with a plantar fascia strain. Crumpler has been banged up a bit (although he returned to practice today). And Todd Heap is also recovering from injuries and has missed time.
Hopefully Gates will get a contract worked out. If he does, look for him to continue to put up big numbers.
Also, it looks like Denver Broncos tight end Jeb Putzier has been bumped from his starting role because of his poor blocking ability.
