How important is defense in a fantasy football league?
Defense is a fantasy position that can be underestimated in terms of its value. A good defense can put up a nice score every week. In our league last year, the #1 defense outscored the #10 defense by almost 80 points over the course of the season.
Should you draft a defense early? No. But I believe that it is important to put together a very balanced team if you want to succeed every week. There will be days that the defense puts up big numbers and saves your team from losing.
Some of the good scoring fantasy defenses are actually some of the worst defense in the NFL. Last year the Colts had a terrible defense but they put up good fantasy numbers because they created a lot of turnovers. Watch the waiver wire during the season and see if there are any defenses that are putting up good point totals and don't be afraid to pick them up.
